CIVIL INFORMATION (NON VIOLENT) ACTIVISM

Local Edmonton Actions Featured
Moderator's favorite activist quotes, yours to ponder
So the question that comes immediately to mind is ‘Do the ends justify the means?”  Many protesters believe that acting in an uncivilized manner is warranted to get their point across. I believe that your personal behavior is a reflection of your values and that if you truly believe in your cause then you must always reflect your values in your every move.  The best example of this is Gandhi who used his non-violent protests and persistence to defeat the greatest empire in the world.   Captain Bruce Sinclair Pilots for 9/11Truth
Civil Informationing is loving yourself and your community enough to teach yourself the most vital under-reported and mis-reported information, and then to teach that information to your community. Civil Information Activism (CIA) is not screaming at buildings with a bullhorn or creating face to face confrontations with the media or the police. CIA is attempting to connect with your community in the most respectful manner possible. CIA is not blaming the media, but becoming the media. CIA is acting in small non-threatening groups, not creating a mob or riot mentality which will only hasten the police state we see growing year by year. Civil Information Activism is one of the few options
I currently recognize as being a productive tool in the battle to disseminate information and to create the world most of us wish to live in.  Raymond Geisler Producer/host of the Unbought and Unbossed radio show,
For me Civil Information Activism is very simple. Share the truth. Share the truth with love. Share the truth with friends, family, strangers, and if you are really brave the people you work with. Share the truth not as a guru, not as a know it all, not as a "I know something you don't", rather share it humbly. Share small or share big but share. Share like you are Gandhi, or share like you are in kindergarten, but share.

The possibilities are endless to the ways and means of promoting your cause through civil information activism. All you need is some imagination, commitment  and belief in yourself.
Respect for all people, property, and the rule of law.

Civil information activists will avoid the practice of civil disobedience, protests or disruptive behavior during civil information actions. The goal of the civil information activism is to get the news, and information to your cause out into the public in a safe environment with little or no resistance. Civil information activism promotes respect for all people, property and the rule of law . It's educational, informative, socially acceptable, and its civil approach is normally well received in our communities by both the public and authorities.

When confronted by security, police or city officials, you should try to resolve where your activities should take place so that all parties are satisfied. Civil negotiating for resolving disputes between activist and authorities can resolve most differences so that all can be happy. The bottom line is those in authority have the final say.

Behave respectfully when interacting with the public. Avoid long debates and arguments while defending your cause. Use un-intrusive signs and free hand-out materials to do most of the talking for you.

Your banners and materials can promote web-sites to more detailed information about your cause. Respect the right of those who do not agree to disagree.  However, it's good to research your cause and be prepared to answer questions.

Avoid hanging posters and banners on public or private property without the prior permission of public authorities or property owners.

Note: Not all city sidewalks are public as I learned in the city of Edmonton while doing civil information activism. As it turns out some property owners do own the sidewalks adjacent to their property and have every legal right to ask you to leave.
Material, Employ the K.I.S. "Keep it simple" method.
Sometimes the cause you're bringing forth publicly can come across as questionable, controversial and overwhelming to absorb for folks who hear it for the first time.  I found easy-to-read simple introduction to your cause by way of  free DVDs, newsletters and brochures with links to websites and other resources that have more in-depth news and information is all one needs to perk the interest and encourage folks to take the next step forward to learning more about the issues to your cause at a pace most comfortable for them. Continually updating your material hand-outs, website and other information resources promoting your cause is important. Times change and so must your information keep in step with the changing times with accuracy and integrity. Old news is no news.
Here are just a few more recommendations that can help your group prepare for a cause by way of civil information activism in your community.

Prior to your action, get together with your group and plan out your strategy.
Where would be the best locations for the most impact to your cause?

Be sure your material, pamphlets and DVDs include links to web sites and are up-to-date with accurate data, news and information relating to your cause.

It's good before taking your cause to the streets, your group is prepared knowing latest updates and new developments to your cause ?

Briefings about your cause and reviewing your goals is recommended before events.

Keep in mind that civil information activism is getting your cause out to as many people as possible. Large groups of activists congregated in one area is less productive. Situating activist into smaller groups in several locations will get more attention for your cause.

Remember to avoid long debates and arguments while doing civil Information activism. You’re goal is to share your cause with as many people as possible.

Keep signs and placards small and un-obstructive in public areas but effective enough to attract attention from passer-by's  for that one on one exchange. let your sign, free brochures and friendly smile attract the attention to your cause.

Civil Information Activism Special Events

Civil information activism includes public speaking forums and film presentations within the community. Friends and supporters of Edmonton 9/11truth presented two speaking engagements, and one film presentation at a public library. Leading up to each event, activists staged several civil information actions at busy locations, handing out news and information to their cause while promoting upcoming events.  Promotion included posters on city and university provided kiosks, public newsletters, word-of-mouth invitations and on one occasion purchasing radio spots on a popular radio station. All three events had good turnouts, while thousands received exposure of this cause from its promotion leading up to each event. The goal at bringing the news and information of the crimes 9/11 into our community was accomplished by our civil informational actions.

Richard D. Brinkman Site Moderator,
I asked the foreman, "Are these men skilled
And the men you'd hire if you had to build?"
"For the most part," he said, "No indeed.
Just common labor is all I need.

"I can easily wreck in a day or two
What builders have taken a year to do.
And I thought to myself, as I went away,
Which of these roles have I tried to play?

Am I a builder, who works with care,
Measuring life by the rule and square?
Or, am I a wrecker, who walks the town
Content with the labor of tearing down?"

Staying Reasonable with 9/11 Truth - A Powerful Path to Success! An Interview with Ken Jenkins
Interview and notes by John Bursill
Visibility 9-11 is excited to welcome for the first time long-term activist/organiser, film maker, writer, engineer and psychologist Ken Jenkins. Ken's qualities of patience, fairness, optimism and clear logical thinking are well displayed in this interview! I consider Ken a cornerstone of this movement pursuing 9/11 Truth, which he has devoted nearly 9 years of his life to. Ken's work is primarily as a film maker.
He has produced and directed documentaries for the likes of Richard Gage, David Ray Griffin and Dr Steven Jones, just to name a few. Ken's skills have been invaluable to the 9-11 movement and given us all valuable tools to help us all take many scientific and academic presentations to the the general public.  Ken is a professional videographer and consistently provides these films at a high level of production value and offers them at a tenth of the cost to us to use in our activsm. It is true to say that without the efforts of Ken Jenkins and his right-hand man hummux our movement would be less successful! Visibility 9-11 sincerely thanks Ken and hummux for this very important and tedious work.     LINK/ PODCAST/ MORE INFO

Keeping your community informed to what matters is a commitment that never stops. Example- Edmonton 911 activists have posted kiosks with up to date news and information on an average of twice a month, yearly since 2007, with no end in sight in stopping until a criminal investigation in Canada is accomplished.
That's cognitive advertising with commitment.
